JoAnn Nelson Hetherington, age 82, passed away peacefully September 26, 2019 due to complications related to heart disease and respiratory distress.

 JoAnn was born October 23, 1936 in Washington, D.C. She attended Holton Arms High School in Washington, D.C. and graduated Bennett Jr. College in Millbrook, New York. JoAnn was a caring, outgoing, and creative individual.

 She is preceded in death by her husband, Seth C. Hetherington and step daughter Jenny Harrison. JoAnn is survived by Bert”, her close companion; her three children, Cynthia Ann Derr, Sheila Louise Plotts and Alexander Nelson Plotts; step children Paget Hetherington and Seth Hetherington; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother Fred Nelson, wife CoCo and sister Melissa Morgan Nelson, husband Tom.

 JoAnn touched the lives of many and will live on in all our hearts. Celebration of life to be held November 3, 2019, 1pm at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, 1535 S. 41Street, Wilmington, N.C. 28403.
