Open Your Heart
During the 2015 First Coast Heart Ball, we introduced you to the Carnes family. As you may recall, Chas Carnes was diagnosed in-utero with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which required surgery just nine days after he was born. Since then, Chas has had more surgeries and is continually monitored by his physicians. At some point, Chas will require a heart transplant, but for now he is enjoying a little boy’s life and just graduated from Kindergarten.
Families like the Carnes remind us why our efforts are so important. Recently, Mrs. Carnes reached out to us and gave an update from Chas’s recent doctor’s visit. Here is what she shared with us: “It was one of the best visits we have had in a long time. Dr. Lacey said that the medications they have him on now are doing their job. His function looks better than the last visit and instead of seeing us in two months they have extended us out to four months. He has been doing well at summer camp, though the heat causes him to stay tired. Thank you for you continued thoughts and prayers for our sweet little Chas. He said he hopes you like his picture. He even signed it for you.”
Along with the Carnes family, we are grateful for your commitment to our mission. Because of you, we are building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Please save the date for the 2016 First Coast Heart Ball on March 12, 2016!
