My journey with the American Heart Association began at a very young age. I lost my grandmother as a baby from cardiac arrest. Growing up she missed out seeing my have my first birthday party, playing sports, and graduating college. Sometimes I wonder if my life would be different if she were here...
Recently at the age of 52 my mother went into cardiac arrest while playing tennis and since then has had heart surgery. Without her friends calling 911, the EMS getting there fast, and Duke hospital being around the corner would she be here today? With the advancements of technology, research, and education through the American Heart Association I don't know if she would still be my side. I am forever grateful that I am able to still experience life's precious moments with her.
It's why we've made better heart and brain health our mission. And until there's a world free of heart disease and stroke, we'll be here, working to make a healthier, longer life possible for everyone.
Why? Life is why.
